Fall into the darkness – my frequent ootd’s lately

Just a quick update on my life- I’ve recently gone part time at my job at Trade Secrets so I can find something more corporate. So I’ve been seeing a lot more of my friends and wearing things that would normally be work-dubious. My style has definitely taken a turn for the darker. Here’s my August summer ootd’s for comparison. I’m officially bidding good bye to summer pastels and frills. The following are my top three most frequently worn outfits for the past month. Also known as me asking myself how much I can possibly dress down without looking lazy.

Fall fashion trend if you’re in a weather rut

I’ve found myself falling into a weather rut lately. You know that period of time when you wear the same general thing because of the weather and start feeling “meh”? I love keeping cozy in sweaters and leggings- basically what you’d wear on a relaxed Sunday while enjoying a pumpkin spice latte. But it’s time to break out of the jacket-scarf-and-jeans habit. Instead of a regular pumpkin spice latte, let’s be pumpkin spice lattes with extra whipped cream, sprinkles, and a pumpkin spice cupcake on the side.

Dressing Clueless in the 21st century

Get ready for another blast from the past! The 1995 chick flick, Clueless is one of my all time favorite movies. Plus, it was made the year I was born ayyy! Cher is such a lovable character, and she truly grows throughout the movie. Although she is shallow and manipulative at first, she learns to do good without any ulterior motives. Of course, another thing to love about her is her wardrobe. What I found really interesting was how styles from 90’s pop culture are truly making a comeback. Here are some throwback styles that became trendy again.

Soft grunge style for the fall

If you ask me, one of the biggest fashion tragedies is grunge never really taking off. It started in the 1980’s and peaked around the early 90’s. Silhouettes were androgynous and the entire vibe was very anti-fashion or anti-society. But everything old is new again! With the rise of oversize sweaters, midi skirts, and chokers, 21st century grunge is here to stay. Which is great for people like me who never quite grew out of their teenage aesthetic. This year, I dived straight into autumn with soft grunge. Here’s what I typically wear to be comfortable at work or hanging out over the weekends.

Non-excessive ways to get your fall fashion started early

The season of pumpkin spice is near! Also known as sweater weather or Halloween time. However, the transition from late summer to early autumn can be an awkward time. In Toronto, fall fashions are hitting the shelves while afternoons can still be stifling. Summer’s not quite over, but at the same time, I can’t wait to unleash my inner Morticia Addams. If you’ve had enough of summer, here are some little things I’ve been doing to jump start my fall style without having to switch out my whole wardrobe.

The old and new- Modern day fashion trends from My Fair Lady

This week’s post is another tribute to the past since I am such a fashion history junkie. If you have not seen the 1964 Film of My Fair Lady, featuring Audrey Hepburn, you’re seriously missing out. In the Edwardian London, Professor Higgins (a rich, but tactless phonetics expert), makes a bet that he can turn Eliza Doolittle (a young woman selling flowers with a strong Cockney accent) into a proper English speaking lady. The two get to work on Eliza being able to pass off as a duchess at the Embassy Ball. It’s witty, comedic, and it will tug your heartstrings. And not to mention the costumes! Oh god, the flamboyant, stunning, ornate costumes!! I can’t event begin to describe them! *ahem* Anyways, here are some modern day fashion trends that I find reminiscent of My Fair Lady.

Looking slayin’ while working out

I’ve been so excited to share this post with you guys!!! (One exclamation mark isn’t enough haha) Keeping active has always been a big part of my life, and it took me a while to figure out how to look good while sweating buckets. With the rise of athleisure, it’s become possible for us fashion girls to kill our style while killing the weights.

*psst* If you’re a gal on a budget like me, Marshall’s and Winners are great places to shop since they have huge active-wear sections and carry a variety of brands.
